Measure the furniture, then measure the narrowest point on its route. A piece can fit through the front door and still fail at a hallway turn, stair landing, or elevator opening.
Measure the piece
Record width, height, and depth. For sofas, include the arms and back. For bed frames, note whether the frame, headboard, and supports come apart. Empty every drawer before measuring a dresser.
Measure the route
| Location | What to record |
|---|---|
| Room doorway | Clear width and height with the door open |
| Hallway turn | Hall width plus distance to the opposite wall |
| Stairs | Clear width, landing size, railings, and ceiling height |
| Elevator | Door opening and usable interior dimensions |
| Building exit | Thresholds, gates, and any sharp turns |
Decide what can be disassembled
Removable legs, shelves, bed slats, and table leaves can change the route. Do not force joints that are glued, damaged, or unfamiliar. Tell the provider what hardware is accessible and whether the piece must remain usable.
- Remove personal items and drawer contents.
- Keep pets and children away from the route.
- Protect or remove fragile wall decor.
- Confirm elevator and loading reservations.
- Tell the crew about tight turns before arrival.
A few measurements can prevent an unsafe lift or a last-minute change of plan. If the route is tight, send photos and measurements with the estimate request.
